JYOTIṢA LEARNING CENTER

Time, pattern and interpretation

Learn the vocabulary and structure of traditional Hindu astrology. Associations shown here describe interpretive traditions; they are not scientifically established predictions or guarantees about a person’s future.

Read responsibly

A birth chart is traditionally interpreted as a whole: date, exact time, location, planetary condition, houses, aspects, daśās and interpretive lineage all matter. A Sun sign alone is not a complete Jyotiṣa reading.

CHART INTERPRETATION

Ten foundations beyond a Sun sign

No placement works alone. Responsible interpretation moves from astronomical data to a documented framework and then to cautious synthesis.

01

Lagna

The zodiac degree rising on the eastern horizon. It establishes the first house and changes quickly, so exact birth time and place are essential.

02

Bhāva

A house represents an area of experience. House boundaries and interpretive methods differ between systems.

03

Graha condition

Sign, house, dignity, combustion, retrogression, speed, aspects and association are considered together.

04

Dṛṣṭi

Planetary aspects. Parāśari graha dṛṣṭi, Jaimini rāśi dṛṣṭi and other approaches must be labeled.

05

Ayanāṃśa

The offset used to convert tropical longitude to a sidereal framework. Different values can change sensitive placements.

06

Varga

Divisional charts examine specific domains. The navāṃśa is interpreted with, not independently from, the natal chart.

07

Daśā

Planetary period systems organize symbolic timing. Vimśottarī is widely used but is not the only system.

08

Gocara

Transits describe current movement relative to the natal chart and are weighed with daśā and natal promise.

09

Yoga

A defined planetary combination whose complete textual conditions, strength and context must be checked.

10

Bala

Strength can include positional, directional, temporal and motional factors rather than one simple score.

A RESPONSIBLE READING ORDER

From birth data to synthesis

  1. 01Accurate date, time, place and timezone
  2. 02Astronomical positions and declared ayanāṃśa
  3. 03Lagna, rāśi chart and house framework
  4. 04Graha ownership, dignity and condition
  5. 05Aspects, conjunctions and dispositors
  6. 06Moon, nakshatra and relevant daśā
  7. 07Vargas used only for their stated domain
  8. 08Transits interpreted with the natal chart
  9. 09Synthesis, uncertainty and alternative readings
  10. 10Ethical communication without fear or guarantees

Methods must be labeled

Parāśari, Jaimini, Tājika, nāḍi and regional traditions can use different rules and priorities. The website should identify the method instead of blending incompatible rules into one prediction.

What this section can do

Teach terminology, show calendar calculations, explain traditional frameworks and help users ask better questions.

What it will not do

Guarantee marriage, wealth, health, pregnancy, death, legal outcomes or investment results; frighten users with doṣa claims; or sell compulsory remedies.
